Landonis Balthazar “Lando” Calrissian III is a fictional Star Wars character. In The Empire Strikes Back (1980). Presented as an old friend of Han Solo and the administrator of the floating Cloud City on the gas planet Bespin. Prior to the events of the film, Lando worked as a gambler, con artist, playboy, mining engineer.And businessman, and was the owner of the Millennium Falcon until he lost it in a bet to Han. When the Galactic Empire threatens Cloud City, Lando reluctantly betrays Han to Darth Vader. But subsequently redeems himself by assisting Han’s friends in escaping the Empire.
Lando, after becoming a general in the Rebel Alliance. Aids in the escape of Han from Jabba the Hutt and leads the attack on the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi (1983).
Lando is played by Billy Dee Williams in both the original trilogy and the sequel film The Rise of Skywalker (2019), marking one of the biggest gaps in American film history between depictions of the same character by the same actor. In the independent film Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). Donald Glover played a younger version of the character, depicting the beginnings of his friendship with Han Solo. Lando also makes frequent appearances in the Star Wars Expanded Universe of novels. Comic books, and video games, including a trilogy of novels centred on him.
The character has become one of the most popular in the franchise, with Billy Dee Williams’ acting getting accolades. Donald Glover’s performance in Solo, likewise praised as one of the film’s highlights. Williams received two Saturn Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor. For his roles in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
