Joonas Suotamo (born 3 October 1986) is a Finnish actor and former professional basketball player. Also, he is best known for his role as Chewbacca in the Star Wars saga. Taking over the role from Peter Mayhew, first as a body double, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015); and later as the lead in Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
Chewbacca, nicknamed “Chewie”; is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. He is a Wookiee, a tall, hirsute biped and intelligent species from the planet Kashyyyk. Additionally, Chewbacca is the loyal friend and first mate of Han Solo; and serves as co-pilot on Solos spaceship, the Millennium Falcon.
Within the films of the main saga, Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew) from episodes III to VII (Mayhew shares the role with his body double Joonas Suotamo autographs on Episode VII).
